I am currently studying the development of 14th Amendment “privacy” and individual autonomy in my Constitutional law class.  This inevitably led to the abortion debate and its foundations in Constitutional theory and interpretation.  Not surprisingly, everyone in the class has an opinion, and most have a very strong opinion.

Someday we will be lawyers and may very well have to address issues that we feel very strongly about.  However, we must remember that we are obligated to uphold the law and fight for our clients regardless of our personal views on the matter.  Debate is good and will sometimes become heated.  But remember that if you want someone to respect your opinions on an issue you must also respect theirs.  Respect for another’s opinion and viewpoint does not mean that you agree with their position.  It just means that you can be professional and a good lawyer.  God Bless and have a great day.
