As a non-traditional law student you have probably been in the workforce for some time. Use that to your advantage by establishing relationships with your colleagues that may need future legal advice. You should also learn who the lawyers in your community are. Talk to them and seek their advice. Tell them you are a law student and you are interested in the type of law they practice. Or seek their advice of what being a lawyer is like in your community.

Lawyers generally like to share their knowledge and will be happy to speak with you. Do not be overly aggressive, and remember that their time is very valuable. But just a few simple conversations and the showing of interest will allow you to begin establishing a relationship with lawyers who may become some great referral sources in the future or perhaps even employers. It is never too early to begin establishing career and (possibly) future client relationships.
