One of the things that will influence how we practice as lawyers is our jurisprudential view on important issues. As law students we are learning about the law but also how to think in a different way. How to analyze and critique fact patterns and prune from them the important and relevant issues. You will soon discover which side of the fence you are on based upon the way you view an issue. Are you conservative or liberal?

A good lawyer, however, will not confuse his or her political views with his or her jurisprudential views. When analyzing an issue we must look at the legal issues involved. Our Founding Fathers separated our government into branches for a reason, and the legislatures and courts play very different roles. When certain issues become frustrating (and they will) try to remember that you are analyzing them from a legal standpoint and not a personal-preference standpoint. You may very well be called upon some day to argue an issue from a viewpoint that you disagree with. Will you be able to do it? God Bless and have a great day.
